Signs-Word–Deeds

Greetings Church,

Well we are truly into a change of season and bring it on I say! I just feel to remind us all again of our purpose as a Church. Luke 4:18-19 says “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lords favour.”
We are called to reveal God to the world. We see this played out in three areas:

Signs – Word – Deeds

Signs is about his presence in our lives and the outworking of that. “The Spirit of the Lord is on me because the Lord has anointed me” how do you see the presence of God on your life? His supernatural power on display, His Spiritual gifts manifested in and through you.

Secondly we reveal God through his Word. “To proclaim good news to the poor”. Through the teaching of the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus we can reveal the love of God to the world.

And then finally through our Deeds, “freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind”. Through serving and meeting needs we can reveal God to a hurting world.

Once this is established in our hearts the next question to ask is where do I do this?  Acts 1:8 says “and you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria and to the Ends of the Earth”. In other words locally and globally. Wherever you are.

This is the goal here at Elim Church. We don’t major on one or the other but we try to achieve all three Signs – Word – Deed and we want to see it outworked locally and globally.

I shared this with our staff this morning and as I did it reminded me again of why I do what I do and why we as a Church exist.

Have a good look at how things are for you. Maybe it reveals what you are passionate about and gifted to do.  Could it be something like Josh and Aimee Mackey who run an orphanage in Uganda. Through their deeds globally they are revealing the love of God to those in need. Or maybe it’s like Sue Doyle and her Prayer Activation course on Tuesday nights. Again she is revealing the love of God to those in need.

Ask God what it is for you and how he wants you to see this outworked. As we all begin to find the answers to these questions we will begin to see things grow. It’s a new season, a season of growth. Join the team and be part of the journey.

Blessings,
Nu and Taua.

Special Announcement:
I am so excited to announce that we are going to launch a second morning service in November. We have been planning to do this since we closed the 5pm service earlier this year. So we will have two new Sunday Service times:  9am and 10.45am. This will give you more options on a Sunday and more opportunity for new people to join our Church. We will have more details in the coming weeks. Keep praying for us as we continue to step out in new and exciting ways.
