Good Morning Church,
I am excited to announce our first 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting for 2020. We are joining together with all the Elim Churches around the country who have been given the challenge to take time to seek God and to really pray for the move of God throughout our nation. The theme of this 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting is “Revival Ready”. We are preparing our hearts for the greatest move of God we have seen in our lifetime. I am a believer that our God is going to move supernaturally throughout our community, our city, our nation and the nations of the world.
We have an integral part to play in the next move of God. The bible tells us in 2 Chronicles 7:14 “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
God says if we will do our part He will do His. We are partnering with the Kingdom of God. Believing for God to pour out His favour over our nation. From the top of the North to the bottom of the South. We will see the hand of God move.
So I’m asking everyone in our Church to commit to praying and fasting over the next 21 Days. Starting from the 16th of March - 5th of April. We have printed booklets for you to use over the 21 day period. In it you will find bible readings and prayer points for each day.
To launch our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, I’m inviting everyone in our church to join us on Monday the 16th of March for a 1 hour prayer meeting in the Elim Church Christchurch City Auditorium, 10am-11am.
If you are fasting for the first time I would recommend that you consider your health situation before entering into a Fast. If you are pregnant you shouldn’t fast but be praying, the welfare of your baby is your priority. If you are sick or are taking special medication or have special dietary needs check with a doctor before you decide to fast. The Lord knows your heart, He understands if it’s not medically possible for you to fast at this time. Children are not expected to fast with you. However you may like to give them the challenge to “go without” in another way. Maybe T.V. or technology or something else for a time. It could be for the morning or a day or however long you choose. So please be sensible in choosing how long to fast and again seek medical advice if needed.

How to Begin
Start with a clear goal. Be specific. Why are you fasting? Do you need direction, healing, restoration of marriage or family issues? Are you facing financial difficulties? Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. Pray daily and read the Bible.
Confess your sins to God. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas of weakness. Forgive all who have offended you and ask forgiveness from those you may have offended (Mark 11:25; Luke 11:4; 17:3-4). Surrender your life fully to Jesus Christ and reject the worldly desires that try to hinder you (Romans 12:1-2).
Deciding What to Fast
There are many different types of biblical fasts you could do. We are doing the Daniel fast. Daniel abstained from sweets and meats, and the only liquid he drank was water. Remember to replace that time with prayer and bible study.
Deciding How Long
You may fast as long as you like. Most can easily fast from one to three days, but you may feel the grace to go longer. Here’s some suggestions:
This fast can be a full fast, Daniel Fast or give up at least one item of food.
A partial fast is from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm or from sun up to sun down. You can select from three types of fasting —a full fast, Daniel Fast or give up at least one item of food.
Use wisdom and pray for guidance. Beginners are advised to start slow.
What to Expect
When you fast your body detoxifies, eliminating toxins from your system. This can cause mild discomfort such as headaches and irritability during withdrawal from caffeine and sugars. And naturally, you will have hunger pains. Limit your activity and exercise moderately. Take time to rest. Fasting brings about miraculous results. You are following Jesus’ example when you fast. Spend time listening to praise and worship. Pray as often as you can throughout the day. Get away from the normal distractions as much as possible and keep your heart and mind set on seeking God’s face.
How to End
Don’t overeat when the time comes to end your fast. Begin eating solid food gradually; eat small portions or snacks.
