Did you know that Jesus prayed for you?
Reading through John 17 again I came across these really encouraging words of Christ.
vs 20 “My prayer is not for them (Disciples) alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one.”
I love the thought that Jesus prayed for us before we believed. Kind of mind blowing that Jesus would not only pray for us before we believed but that he prayed that we would be given the same glory that God gave him. The word glory can mean praise and worship or honour and dignity. I think when Jesus prayed that we have the same glory as He had it wasn’t that we would be praised and worshipped but that we would receive honour and dignity.
Give them the same honour and dignity that you have given me was his prayer. This is the great and encouraging thing.
God through Jesus has set it up that we not only praise Him but that he extends honour back to us. How do you know that you’re truly loved by someone? It is shown in how much they respect and honour you. Greater the honour, greater the love. Christ asked that as we come into that place of belief in Him we would receive the same honour as He received so that we can be one with Him.
You who believe today receive the glory (honour and dignity) that God gives you. Stand in that place, know you’re true worth. The glory of the Lord is upon you and you walk with God.
I’ll let that simmer in your minds for this week.
