1 John 3:16-18 (NIV)
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
This week I had the privilege of spending a bit of time with Elim Senior Pastors from the top of the South Island to Central South Island. I shared at this meeting that one of the things I’m most proud of this year is that we are more outward focused as a church. We’ve supported Nvader, provided thousands of lunches for children in need, sent missions teams to Philippines and Fiji, supported missionaries to Brazil, provided child and parent support through our Music and Munchies programme, our holiday and afterschool programmes are growing, our Elim Early Learning Centre is growing and we are looking at setting up a C.A.P center in the future. There’s so much to be thankful for!
In John's letter he reveals what true love looks like. Using Christ as the ultimate example he says as Christ sacrificed his life, we too need to make sacrifices for each other. And then he really hits it out of the park with these words…"let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”
I’m proud to say this is what I’m seeing in the life of this church. I see people practically showing their love for others. This is part of what it means to be a son and daughter of our Father God. Let me challenge you today to live out your love for God. Look for practical ways to love on people and by this revealing God's love for them.
Make sure you don’t miss this Sunday's services. I will be sharing about what I see for the future of this church. I can’t wait to share what God has placed on my heart and what he wants to be in the future.
Christmas Celebration Service
This year for Christmas we are doing things a little differently. In our build up to Christmas we have different children’s ministry areas sharing at our services starting with our Powerzone kids this Sunday. Then on the 20th December we will have an “all in together” church service followed by a community day BBQ after the service. On this particular Sunday we have invited children from our preschool and Music + Munchies programme who have not been to our church to perform at the service. This is an exciting new thing we are doing. So we need your support by spreading the word and attending the Christmas Celebration service yourselves. It’s great to think that unchurched families will be coming to our meeting, many for the first time because we’ve made a way for them to be there. Again another practical way to love on people.
Help needed for the Christmas Celebration
We need people to help with the set up and pack down of the BBQ area, marquees, tables etc. on Sunday Dec 20th. If you are able to help please let us know by contacting Ps. Phil Phil.Godsiff@chch.elim.org.nz
Welcome to Elim lunch
This Sunday after our morning service we have our Welcome to Elim lunch. If you’re new to church and haven’t been to one of our lunches you are invited!! Come and meet the team and hear from me as I share more about what I see for our church. Please RSVP Phil.Godsiff@chch.elim.org.nz for catering purposes.
