I often reflect back on how I got to the position I am in. I look at all the milestones and intersections. Decisions that were made, mistakes I’ve regretted making and one of the things that has had the most impact on the choices I’ve made has been the people around me.
I’ve been blessed with really strong mature Christians, both men and women, who have invested into my life and helped in my Spiritual formation. Without these people giving sound advice, standing with me in prayer or opening the doors of opportunity for me to step through, I’m not certain I would be here today.
When you study the life of Christ and his ministry to the world, two things will stand out. Firstly, his intimate relationship with God. He had such a strong bond that allowed him to face challenges and trials and overcome them all. Secondly you see his deep desire for his disciples. He brought them close to him. He taught them, corrected them, basically for the three and a half years of his ministry he “did life with them”.
As with everything Jesus did, he gave us an insight into the life we’re called to live. We are called to “Do life together”. It’s in these relationships that we can grow in God. we’re challenged, encouraged. We have people standing with us in our time of need and we can stand with others in their time of need.
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
At Elim Church we emphasize the Connect groups because we believe it’s the place where a lot of growth takes place. You are taught, challenged and have people standing with you.
This Sunday we’ll have a Connect Group sign up table in the foyer. Head there and sign up to be in a group this year. You can try a few groups until you find the one that works best for you. But the key is to get connected.
Let this be the year where Spiritual formation and growth happens in your life.
Cheering you on,
Nu and Taua Telea.
