This past week I was in Auckland at my first National Leadership Team meeting for Elim NZ. It was great to get together with the new leadership team of our movement to work through how we as a movement are doing and how we can best support our local church pastors. Being able to sit in a room and listen to each leader speak on what God was doing around our nation through our Elim churches was really exciting. I think we as Elim have a long proud history. So much has happened in and through our movement over the years. I’m pleased to say we have plans to keep Elim moving forward in our nation. The vision is big and exciting and I know it will cause us to rely on God more than ever before!
This coming Saturday we get to thank all our volunteers at our Volunteer Appreciation BBQ. Did you know that currently nearly 1 in 3 adults serve in some meaningful way in our church? I think that’s fantastic! A third of our members are involved in making this church what it is. I am just so thankful to each and everyone that does serve in this church. We can only do what we do because of the commitment of our people. So on behalf of everyone here I want to thank you all for the amazing work you do. You are truly a blessing!
Finally, last week I was able to attend a church leaders meeting with guest speaker Steve Graham from Equippers Church in Auckland. Steve said something that was very thought provoking for me. He talked on scalability and challenged us to think about what we’re doing in terms of its ability to grow. In our current structures and processes, do we have room for things to grow without it causing dramatic change in our systems? Are we equipped to grow without having to change what we do to cater for the increase? It’s a great question for us all. Can you see in what you’re doing room for increase and growth? There are so many pictures that Jesus uses to illustrate the importance of growth. He doesn’t just want you to settle for whatever you can get but he wants you to see increase. Let me leave you with this question Steve gave to all the leaders in attendance: “Does what I’m doing have the ability to scale upward to reach out to my city and nation?”
Have a great week. See you this Sunday and bring a friend!
The New Elim NZ National Leadership Team (from L to R):
Luke Brough (National Leader - Auckland), Chris Bethwaite (National Administrator - Auckland), Ric Knott (Wellington), Trevor MacDowell (Tauranga), Tom Hatch (Deputy Leader - Blenheim), Boyd Ratnaraja (Auckland), and Nu Telea (Christchurch).
Well what an amazing weekend. Men’s Camp on Friday and Saturday was amazing - nothing like men getting together to worship God and then spending the day with lots of fun outdoor activities like quad-bikes, diggers, jet boating, 4x4 driving, clay shooting ... we will post up some photos on our church Facebook pages so you can see what we got up to. To all the men that missed out this year, you definitely need to be there next year.
Sunday was so good. It was a blessing to have two amazing speakers in John Kirkby and Chris Bethwaite. They brought such inspirational and timely messages for us as a church. I know I was encouraged and stirred by both of them. One encouraging thing they both said about our church was that there was a wonderful sense of the presence of God in our meetings and that everyone was lovely and friendly - great work church!
Just a reminder that Vision Sunday is coming up on the 6th of December. It is going to be a great day and I will be sharing about the new vision for our church and what God is calling us to do. Make sure you book this in your diaries and come along and hear it for yourself. Bring friends along too, as this will be a great opportunity to hear the Gospel message.
This coming Sunday we have Jacqui White speaking. Jacqui has been a part of our church for many years and with Paula Marsden is running an amazing women's ministry here at church called Establish. Jacqui is a favourite speaker of ours, a great communicator and an awesome woman of God. You will be blessed by what she has to share! Why not leave home 10-15mins earlier this Sunday and join us for coffee or tea before the service and hang out with some of the other wonderful people in our church family!
Enjoy the long weekend, see you on Sunday!
Well what an amazing weekend we had with Len Buttner. Such a blessing to have him with us ministering at all our services and to the leaders on Saturday. I sensed a real shift this weekend. Something just felt different and I believe the Spirit is working in us and through us. Be encouraged it’s a new day and a new era for the church!
This Sunday we have two amazing speakers. First at our 10am service we are honoured to have John Kirkby, CEO and founder of CAP (Christians Against Poverty). I want you to invite as many people along as possible. You will be inspired by his story and how he gave his life to serve the needs of others. Also at our 5pm we have Chris Bethwaite who is the National Administrator of our Elim Movement. Chris is the guest speaker at this year Men’s Camp in Methven and will be joining us Sunday night. Again, he is a great encourager with a heart for the church.
Finally, we will be taking up a gold coin offering in two weeks to support a new Elim church-plant in Franklin. I have a real heart to plant churches and our movement has a vision to plant churches, so we want to partner with them and support this new church.
Thank you again for your ongoing support in prayers, time and finances. One thing that Len Buttner said of our church was that we have amazing people here. I fully agree. You are all amazing; Taua and I really are blessed to lead this church.
Have a great week. See you Sunday!
