Stepping Out

If you haven’t already heard we are going to two morning services this Sunday, a 9am and 10.45am. Each service will be 75mins in length with a full kids programme available. To help launch our two services we will have guest artists from Christchurch sharing their talents with us. And for this Sunday only we will be giving away free ice cream at the end of each service.

Just to pre-warn you there will be a bit of a teething process as we trial the two services so please come with a extra amount of grace as we work through the trial period. And go the extra-mile to thank the members of our Dream Team who will be serving us on these first few weeks.

Parking

Parking will still be available in the usual places but just remember that there will be a cross over from one service to the next so expect there to be people coming and going at the same time. We have parking available in the building carpark next to the Church and well as parks on the other side of the Church. And of course there’s street parking available. Depending on the demand we can also approach our neighbours about use of their space on a Sunday.

Excitement is building

I am so excited that we’ve reached this Month. I believe as a church this simple act of going to new time slots with an added service allows more room for visitors and more options for our Church family. This creates opportunities for growth.

Come with expectant hearts. It’s your expectancy that draws out the Presence and power of God. So come spiritually hungry ready for God to fill you to overflow with his word.

Thank you to everyone who is a huge part of our Dream Team on a Sunday. You’re servant hearts help to make our Church great.

We serve and amazing God. He’s calling us all out to receive more. Let’s take these steps of faith see what God can do.

Blessings Nu and Taua.

P.S. Don’t forget tonight we have our Light Party. It’s an alternative to Halloween. It ‘s for you and your family and families in your community. Come and lets have some fun together. 5.30pm-8pm

Strength in Numbers

16/10/2018

Yesterday I celebrated a significant milestone in my life. I have now been a follower of Christ for 25 years. At that time many doubted I’d even made a true decision or that I would last a year. But I knew that things were different and that there was no going back to the old way of life. It’s been an amazing journey of many wonderful highs and of course many difficult lows. But through it all, I’m still in love with Jesus and I still choose to follow him.

One of the greatest keys for my “lasting the distance” was having a small group of friends around me that were able to speak into my life and encourage me on my journey. Within days of giving my heart to the Lord a guy who had been a Christian for a while began mentoring me. He opened up his home to me, teaching me what I needed to know about Christianity, answering all the questions that I had. We would spend hours and hours together and there was always a lot of laughs in the house.

We became so close that eventually this same mentor of mine would become my Brother In-Law, but that’s a story for another time.

There is strength in numbers. You will be so much stronger in your own journey with the Lord if you have good friends around you who are able to encourage and pray for you, teach you, mentor you, laugh with you, do life with you. I often say we were never meant to do life alone. This is and always will be a key to maturity and growth in the Church.

When you look at the life of Christ, he modeled the exact same thing. He hand picked a group of 12 men to do life with him. He taught them, encouraged them, empowered them, corrected them. Then he said go out into all the world and do the same (make disciples).

So the question then becomes do you have such relationships in the Church? If the answer is yes then perfect! You are well on your way to growth and maturity in Christ. If the answer is no, then you now have something to work on.

We have some great connect groups meeting at the moment. For a wide variety of needs and for different ages and stages. From Men’s groups to young couples, from 60 plus to single women. Groups for young adults, groups for youth. The list goes on. And if there is a chance that we don’t have one to meet you where you’re at then come and talk to us and lets see what we can do to start one.

The reason we call our groups connect groups is because we want you to be connected into the life of the Church so that you can be supported and grow in your relationship with God and also so that you can support and encourage others.

There is strength in numbers. When you are connected in you have a greater opportunity to grow in Strength. Let’s do this journey together.

We love and appreciate you guys so much. Have a great week and we’ll see you this Sunday.

Blessings Nu and Taua.

More from Sunday morning

Hi Church, today I’ve asked Jono Anderson to share a bit more from his message on Sunday for today blog post. Enjoy!

Greetings all,
I hope the jet lag effects of day light savings have now worn off and you are enjoying the extra light and weather as things start to warm up.

I caught up with Nu on Monday and he encouraged me to share a thought that I forgot to mention on Sunday, when we look at the story of Jacob and his wrestle with the stranger (Genesis 32). As believers what we have to remember is that the bible is actually all about Jesus. Too often we can fall into the trap of taking biblical stories and passages and flipping the in a way that makes humanity the primary character or perspective, but it’s all about Jesus.

As we talked about, it can be easy to take this story in Genesis 32 and look at it from a perspective that is all about Jacob, what he wanted and how he got it but this story too is really all about Jesus. You see this passage is a picture of what was to come, Jacob didn’t prevail in this wrestle, and the story isn’t actually about him. You see Jacob didn’t prevail but Jesus would!

Jesus prevailed for all humanity when he conquered the grave, and because of this we are blessed with the same inheritance that Jacob left with at the end of the story in Genesis. Through the victory at the cross our name, our nature has been changed. It’s something we cannot earn or strive to gain;
this blessing that comes with salvation through Jesus is freely given and can only be freely received.

From this understanding Paul writes in Philippians 3, that all his credentials, all his status, all his striving mean nothing when compared to embracing Christ. They gain him nothing and in fact hold him back. The bible tells us that his blessings are new every day (Lamentations 3), and they are free. Why? Because it’s all about the giver of blessings, it’s all about Jesus.

Church we are truly and abundantly blessed and when we walk in that truth, in that calling we walk in the authority of Christ. Not because of anything we could ever do but because Jesus has prevailed and Numbers 23:20 tells us that what God has blessed, no one can curse.
