Well yesterday we as a staff were able to hand out 200 packets of hot cross buns to people and homes in our immediate area. To be honest we could have done with another 200 packets. Most people that we encountered really appreciated our small act of kindness. We were able to get into the apartment block near the church and were welcomed by the staff that worked there. They were totally blown away by the simple gesture. We were also able to leave a whole tray of buns for Christchurch City Mission and bags at YWCA. They again were blessed by the small act of kindness, I think Taua and Robyn even managed to get their photo taken.
I met a couple of men walking near where we were standing, I managed to give them a bag and talk to them a while and invite them to our services. One said he had heard of Elim and that a relative had invited him years ago. He went on to say it was very timely and that he may just turn up.
As we walked around our neighbourhood, I was again reminded of the great opportunities there are around us. So many people are living in the inner City and we as a church in the City are positioned perfectly to make a difference in the lives of those people.
Over the next few years, more and more apartments, town houses and homes will be built all within a stones throw of us. I’ve heard it said there were plans for up to 20, 000 people to be housed in and around the City. We have a great opportunity to really reach out to these families, students, young couples and people of all walks of life right here where we are. We are in Exciting times!!
Let’s keep praying for our Church and our influence into this city. The bible says in Luke 10 “The harvest is plentiful, but the worker are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field”. God is calling us as his labourers out into the harvest field. It’s through our prayers and skills and talents. Through our giving and serving, our sacrifice that we will see many come to salvation in Jesus Christ.
I am absolutely convinced that we all have a part to play. Each of us has a significant role in order to achieve our goal.
Let’s partner with the Lord and see the breakthrough we are believing for.
This weekend: We have a Combined Elim Churches Good Friday service. 10am here with hot cross buns and hot drinks after the service. As this is only an 1 hour service, Powerzone will be operating with kids going out straightaway.
Then make sure you are back on Sunday for our Resurrection Sunday Service. So much to praise God for. So much to be thankful for. Let’s join together at 9am and 10:45am services and worship our risen Saviour.
4-5 May: Ps Becs Green from Elim Christian Centre, Botany will be with us. Bec’s and her husband Steve lead the largest Elim Campus in Auckland. She is a dynamic speaker and will be speaking at the Girls Night on the 4th of May and then at both services 5th of May.
Cheering you on, Nu and Taua.
